Jumping the Shark: Blue's Clues

Blue's Clues

Blue's Clues is about a children's television show that was aired on Nickelodeon. It was a interactive way to get toddlers or children less than the age of 12 to get them to use their thinking skills. This show was basically about a character, a blue dog named Blue that always wanted to do something, and left hints so the other character at the time, Steve, could help solve it. Each episode consists of Blue leaving behind hints of his daily activities, in order for Steve to solve them, along with the children who watch it. The "Jump the Shark" moment of Blue's Clues, is when the main character Steve,."leaves for college" and his brother steps in and takes Steve's place. After this happened, many children, especially me at the time, didn't like the fact that Steve wasn't there. I remember when I watched the last episode when Steve was leaving, I was sad because he wasn't going to be there anymore. When I was little I felt like it wouldn't be the same show it was when Steve was there.

The show was considered better than the "new" Blue's Clues because the character Steve was the original character. This old version was favorable because as for the children, Steve was part of their childhood and they were so used to seeing him while watching the show as they grew up. As a little kid, I always thought that Steven was irreplaceable. Once you start getting used to seeing someone, especially a tv show that interests, you it's hard to like someone else, regardless of doing the same things as the original character did. Seeing an unfamiliar face would make children's feelings towards the show different.

Once Joe appeared in the picture, things started to go downhill. I remember as a child, I couldn't even finish watching a show, because it would just seem different to me. After a new character filled in, I think it was hard for young kids to accept the fact that their all time favorite character wasn't there anymore. It's also difficult to accept a different person after seeing the original character endlessly. Even though Joe pretty much did what Steve did before he left, it just didn't have the same "fun" vibe as it did before. It all just seemed different and kind of uncomfortable to see that Joe wasn't really appropriate for this character, because Steve did the job the best.

"Read the Will!"

I chose this item in relation to Antony because he uses this against the citizens of Rome to persuade them that Caesar truly cared for Rome and its people. In Act 3 Scene 2, Mark Antony explains how the citizens should not go against Caesar, but to thank for him what he had done for them. Something so small and simple could make an impact on a group of people. Whether it's true or not, Antony uses the will that was written by Caesar, to make a big impact on the citizens of Rome using persuasion. He does this so effectively because even though he didn't read the will, it easily convinced the citizens to think that Caesar actually did some good to them before he died.

Tribal Violence Leads to More Killings

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/tribal-violence-south-sudan-kills-47-173801240.html

In South Sudan, around 47 people have been killed due to tribal violence. In 2005, South Sudan made a peace treaty with Khartoum to end the civil war, leading into the end of tribal and rebel violence killing at least 3000 people last year. Suddenly, the peace ended and violence broke out in Jonglei's state in December where the Lou Neur attacked their rivals the Murle tribe. Because of this, 2,000 people may have died. Not only this, but a youth milita from Murle tribe attacked Duk Padyet in Jongeli, killing mostly young children, women, and elderly people only in the Lou Neur tribe.

This relates to the statement "Violence leads to more violence" because once you start a riot there will always be other ones, especially against your rivals or enemies. When starting something offensive, there will always be a chance that there will be negative outcomes. Especially in something that offends and harms someone or in this case, a tribe. Because of the endless fighting between the tribes, they are certain that their will be deaths involved. In this article, "Violence leading into more violence" is exemplified by the Murle tribe retaliating and killing from young to old innocent people in the Lou Neur tribe-- the tribe that started the whole scene. Once something is started particularly with enemies, something will always be ended and fought the same way, even worse.

This article comes to show how corrupted our government and people are around the world. Using violence to get revenge or to express their anger? It's unfortunate how some people have this mindset of using violence and to contemplate harm towards others JUST to get back at them. It's wrong on many levels, and it's something the government and the people itself need, and must change. It's important to know how to deal with things and "fighting fire with fire" is in fact, a true statement because all it does is create a bigger fire, and in this particular case--death.
